Psalm 91
1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. [a]

2 I will say [b] of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust."

3 Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare
and from the deadly pestilence.

4 He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

5 You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,

6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
nor the plague that destroys at midday.

7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.

8 You will only observe with your eyes
and see the punishment of the wicked.

9 If you make the Most High your dwelling—
even the LORD, who is my refuge-

10 then no harm will befall you,
no disaster will come near your tent.

11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways;

12 they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

13 You will tread upon the lion and the cobra;
you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

14 "Because he loves me," says the LORD, "I will rescue him;
I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.

15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.

16 With long life will I satisfy him
and show him my salvation."

what i have learned....

Whatever goes down the toilet will somehow end up in our water.... Our society needs to take care of itself and its vulnerable .... Pesticides that individuals use on their lawns accounts for more pollution in waterways then industrial use....

Changes is what we need! :)

Honey cake recipie (finally) lol

I have been away for a while but now that I have a moment I have decided to share my honey cake recipe with you. It is one of my Favorite recipes and the tradition is that I am the one who makes it. =) The ingredients:
2 Tablespoons of Honey
1 Cup of Sugar
2 Eggs
100 g of butter- a Darigold Square of butter usually has 113 g of butter so slice just a sliver off. Its better if the butter is room temperature.
1 tea spoon of baking soda mixed with 1 1/2 tea spoons of vinegar- this makes the baking soda taste disappear. =)

This recipe is enough for like 6/8 cake sheets so I usually make two servings by doubling everything

This recipe requires a steam table- or two pans; take a bigger pan fill it 1/4 water and place a smaller pan over the bigger pan. This process will keep the ingredients from burning.

Set the steam table on High and add all these ingredients at once.

Mix all the ingredients so it will be golden and smooth. This process takes 4-6 min.

Turn off the steam table and add flour (2 ½ cups) into the mixture using a metal spatula. Then I take the cake off the steam table.

The dough will still be sticky so I add about one more cup to make it firmer. I take this dough and put it on a plate, separating it into two batches- makes things easier. I let it stand, get firm for half an hour.

Then I cut off a piece, a fist full size and roll it. I usually take a lid of pan and cut it in the shape of the lid so that all my cake sizes are similar.

I usually roll all the cake sheets at the same time and stack them on top of each other and sprinkle a bit of flour in between.

When I have like 5-7 done I turn on the oven to 350 F. I put in each sheet separately, making them golden brown which takes about 3-4 min. I stack all the sheets on top of each other so they turn out more or less uniform.

The final step of the cake is to put it together. For this you need 4 cans of condescended milk. Take off the paper off the cans and wash the cans. Place the cans into a pan that fits all of them and cover with cold water. Place the lid on the pan and place on the stove on high. When the water boils, turn down to low- like 1.2 or 2, the highest and put the stove timer on 2 hours. When the two hours are over turn off the stove and take out the cans- be careful they will be hot. Let the cans cool down ( like 5 hour wait, at least) then open the cans. In them you will have a type of caramel, like the kind you put on green apples which is very delicious. J For each can that you will use you need a stick of butter at room temperature. Mix the butter and mix in the caramel. This is the crème that you will use. Now take a sheet of the cake you made. Moisturize it with milk ( u can do this by spraying on the milk)- lightly because if you moisturize it heavily it will crumble and break. Then add the crème on top. Repeat steps for about 7 layers. In between the layers if you choose to you can add sliced almonds or other nuts- will add to the crunch. When you have finished the layering put crème all around the cake and add sliced/grated chocolate all over the top and nuts (grated) all over the sides. Let the cake stand for 6 hours for moisture.

Cut (usually in square shapes) and enjoy.

Last of the Presentations

This past Wednesday was the last day of our class presentations. One of the groups that presented, besides ours, presented on the book titled "Steal This File Sharing Book: What They Won't Tell You About File Sharing." I really liked the way this group presented. It was straight and to the point. The presenters knew their material and what was going on. They talked about the fact that everything and anything can be shared, if its in a file. There are many ways to share a file, emailing it, transferring it by usb, but certain file sharing groups exist online. These file sharing groups share music, movies and much more. Technically these groups are not illegal but if they share copyrighted information, the sharing of copyrighted information is illegal.

This group talked about why people began to share files, and it was due to the reason that they were tired of the prices that record companies were setting on their cd's. Not only do people pirate and share files, but some people make money off seling pirated music, by making it look like the real deal. There are many reasons why people do the things that they do. Like i have said, people were tired of the record companies prices, some people just want a single song and are not willing to pay ~20 for a cd that they dont want to listen to. Some people collected copyrighted material just because they can.

The world that we live is an interesting one and every person has to make a choice in how they are going to act. If i have more time i would like to read this book, and i advise you, my dear internet college to read it yourself, to really know what your getting yourself into.

Group Presentations in our Virtual World Class

Yesterday was the first day of presentations and we had two groups that presented. The first group presented on a book written by Lee Siegel, titled “Against the Machine, Being Human in the Age of the Electronic Mob.” The basic message of this book is that the internet is separating us from the “real” world and it is promoting self enclosure. The first chapter is titled “Bait and Switch”. This chapter talks about profit and idealism, how the internet is being sold as a form for consumerism. The message that the presenters got out of this book is that Siegel believe that the internet contributes to the destruction of culture and knowledge. Web 2.0 is creating homogenization. In other chapters Siegel talks about the culture that participates in the internet use. He states that the internet contributes to the intermingling of different cliques and to him this is a negative thing. For Siegel cliques that were found in high school are the best way of doing things. Siegel also believes that artists and professionals are sliding into a gray area because of their internet use. He believes that the corporate world is going to take over the “pure form of art”. I’m not going to go into more detail about this book because I believe that you get the point. This author is a critic and he wrote this book to be critical of other people. The presenters stated that they were very frustrated with the book. This can be a good or a bad thing.

The other group of presenters consisted of 5 guys… that was interesting. They were presenting on a book written by Howard Rheingold. The book is called “Smart Mobs: The Next Social Revolution.” The author starts out by talking about texting and the changes that it brought to Tokyo and the rest of the world. Tokyo- is the place of the world most advanced texters. He also talks about I-mode and how it revolutionized the internet on phones. In the next few years we will see a new phenomenon 3-G generations that will be able to used their phones for a life style remote control. Rheingold also talks about the fact that technology is driven by cooperation without cooperation technology is not truly possible. Community Computation is talked about in chapter 3. Examples are Peer to Peer (P2P) sharing, Sharing Central Processing Unit (CPU). Chapter 4 talks about the “era of sentient things” which includes virtual reality research. Virtual Reality Research includes: smart rooms, digital cities, sentient objects, tangible bits, wearable computers. What sentient Technology is: Sense, Receive, Store, and transmit info. Sentient technologies open up a new media sphere. New technologies are making microchips cheaper, more easily accessible. These chips can be embedded into money. UPS is one of the users of the few technologies, it can track trucks when they pass certain points and they can know to the dot when your package will arrive.

Technology is a very interesting thing and different people have different perspectives of it. On Monday we will see in what directions the rest of our presentations go in.

Final Presentation... outline =)

Intro to the Virtual world has been a very interesting class. U might ask why? The reason why it has been interesting is in part due to the teacher and partly due to the subjects covered, blogs written and projects done. Do to the fact that we are nearing the end of the autumn quarter we are going to have one more test coming up and a final group project. This final group project is centered on a book of our choosing, which in this case titled “World without Secrets” is written by Richard Hunter. Our group consists of 7 team members and we have decided to split the reading up by chapters with me getting chapter 8 & 9. What I am going to do is summarize these chapters and use this blog as a draft in preparing for my group project.

Chapter 8 is titled “Distracted consumers, mentats and Timothy McVeigh”. The chapter starts out with the thought that we know and believe that we know what went down on April 19, 1995 at the Oklahoma City bombing. Hunter states “We know what we’ve read and heard. We heard it from the media, who heard it from the FBI, who learned it through dogged investigation” (135). What Hunter is trying to get at here is to get us to think outside the box as he further explains his theory. “Does it matter that some will-informed observers—independent Mentats—believe that that message (that McVeigh committed the bombings all by himself) is false, or even fraudulent?” (135). Now u are going to ask me what is this person advocating here, and what are u advocating by repeating it? What Hunter is trying to say here is that sometimes we are feed what we want to hear, and in this case, the fact that McVeigh was the sole perpetrator of this crime. “We want to believe them”. When we take their explanations at face value, we allow time to go along for the ride. “We are so glad that there is nothing more to learn. We want out of this horror show, fast.” The people in charge know of our desires and they give us what they know and believe that we desire. The networks that surround us, the internet, radio, TV all amplify the story that is given and that is what gives the story power. This fact makes everything known, but at the same time no one will know that truth. The question that Hunter poses for us as readers begins with the premise that the government, the Federal Bureau of Investigations made a choice for us in regards to what they believe that we want to hear. “ Are u willing to accept that the bureau made the right decisions for you when it decided what not to tell you about how it investigated the case and what it did or didn’t find?” (140). Chapter 8 helps us to reexamine our true values, the real truth to them, and to reexamine how much do we really desire the truth. We as the generation of knowledge have the world at our hands. Are we going to be easily led by what we prefer to hear?

Chapter nine is titled “In the exceptional economy, be exceptional”. What does this mean? Hunter starts explaining this by stating “When everything is known, no one knows everything” (145). Do to the fact that there is so much information available in our world people, over time will only pay attention to the deviants of information. These exceptions, the highs and lows, will be the focus of our attention. Exceptions will not only be the focus of our attention but they will be the driving forces of the economy. The reason behind this is that humans get used to everything very easily and they need new objects to stimulate their electrons. Hunter also talks about relationships and how they matter. People don’t trust what they don’t know, and relationships authenticate us. These relationships protect us against the “seas of information” that are out there. In the context of economy mentats, people who are who are well known, who can vouch for someone or something, matter greatly. This singling out may be a good thing or it may be a bad thing, it can make or break a company or a product. In the context of earning money or of becoming someone, being at the right place, at the right time is very significant and networking adds to the spice of life to a business. Hunter also talks about business and why it’s imperative for it to share information. One of the reasons for this sharing of information is because modern businesses are networks. Businesses depend on each other too much, and successful businesses will be able to focus more on what they do better then anyone else. The way this can be achieved is through the sharing of information. The more networks expand the less the choice a business will have in sharing information because everyone is and will be dependent on everyone else.

Finally! I am done summarizing all these points, some I covered in more detail while others in less. What are the basics of these two chapters? Chapter 8 teaches us not to take everything at face value because we might be buying into the information that someone believes, knows that we want to buy into. We should look for the truth because it is available to us; we have the resources to reach for it. Chapter 9 talks about the sharing of information, those businesses will not be able to survive without it. This chapter also talks about how in the world of much information only exceptions capture our numbed mind and this exception is the driving force of the economy.
